Ethnic Cooking for White Chicks

I made this. It’s Curried potatoes with yogurt gravy. :Insert beaming pride here:

See, I have always loved Indian food. If I were going to the electric chair I would ask to have Indian cuisine for my last meal. But, I am challenged in the kitchen. I have looked up Indian recipes, via the internets, but many of the of them have vague directions and I feel overwhelmed. I need a teacher.

When we were in Ft. Worth I happened upon an ethnic food store that was wal-mart super center-esque. I walked in and loaded my little basket up with spices. (Then gagged my way past the prehistoric looking fish heads on ice.)

I had no idea what these spices  were or how to cook with them but I aimed to find out. Enter my brilliant husband who suggested you-tube for cooking lessons and voila! I found this sweet lady, and she has fifty traditional Indian recipe cook-a-longs on you tube.

Meet my new mentor, Manjula:

  1. Ooh, looks good. I usually like it when I have it but it never sounds good enough to just make. :)

We need to get together. It’s been a bit too long. Besides, when Ted says, “we need to get together with them again” I usually jump at the opportunity. :) And … darn you … I showed up the last day and where were you??? I felt a little bad though because I didn’t talk much to your mom. Although, I don’t think she minded. :)

  2. I was in Austin. Kid free!

Okay, have you ever searched a recipe by going to Google and entering the ingredients you want to use “sausage + mushrooms + asparagus + tomatoes + pasta” and whalla - thousands of recipes with exactly those ingredients pop up. Who needs cookbooks?
