No, it wasn’t a dream
Lucas really woke up at 4:00 AM, dumped out the contents of my purse, called the assistant cub master, and brought me my cell phone with a sleepy and panicking voice on the other end saying “hello? hello? is everything OK?!” I profusely apologized as I rubbed my eyes with my fist and squinted at the alarm clock in disbelief…4 AM!! Sweet crap on a stick!!! It was surreal.
I keep teetering between being mortified and amused. Mostly I am mortified. Oye this kid. He keeps it real that’s for sure.

When the phone rings in the middle of the night/early morning, you go through two stages.
Stage 1: Disbelief and curiosity -
“Oh, how interesting. A call at 4:08 AM, whoever could it be.”
then
Stage 2: Horror
“OH MY GOD, WHO IS CALLING ME AT 4:08 AM. SOMEONE IS DEAD!”

I feel your pain. My kid wakes up and randomly wanders in almost every night around the same time with topics from a request for snacks to a gigantic nocturnal bedwetting. Someday, when they’re teenagers and they hate us, we’ll miss these little wakeups, right?

Will I miss the wake ups? Never. When I am awakened in the night it is akin to poking a bear in hibernation with a sharp object. I will wake up. Chew the offenders face off. Go back to sleep and let them deal with the mess.
I am a failure of a night time parent in every way.
