  1. I was watching this and Maddie was doing her homework and she heard the music and looked over to see what I was watching… I had to explain about ancient advertising and how they used to use cartoons to market their death sticks. LOL. I can’t believe how they used to do things!

  2. wow…that makes me kinda sad cause i definitely loved me some flinstones as a kid!

  3. You have to put these ads in context. The Flintstones was primarily targeted at adults, seated in a nice comfy prime-time time slot of 7PM.

If you revisit the original series, this still holds true, since the plots revolved around situations such as unemployment, battle of the sexes, pyramid schemes, loan sharks, infidelity, and mid-life crisis. Lets also not forget, that The Flintstones also mirrored other real life sitcom counterparts. Wilma and Fred has separate beds.

Compare this to the other Hanna Barbara cartoons of the time (Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound) and it is apparent that the studios focus was on a different demographic.

If you look around, you’ll find other cigarette ads featuring TV stars. I remember one with Ricky and Lucy smoking on their couch.

Smoking was a lot sexier in those days, wasn’t it?

  4. Remember when Barney had a coke problem? That was a rough episode. Then Betty got offered all that money for the Clayboy photo shoot. Life lessons. Life lessons for all.
