The story of stuff

I try to watch this once in a while to remind myself of the differences between needs, and wants. If you haven’t seen The Story of Stuff, watch it. It’s fascinating, and eye opening. It’s kid appropriate too. Jack watched the whole thing wide eyed.

I watched the whole video and was mesmerized. I always wondered why products that I would buy just wouldn’t last like they used to… now I know.
I linked to your blog from mine, too. Thanks!

I know, isn’t it fascinating? We are making an effort to not use plastic bags, and buy things with little or no packaging.

one of my sewing blogs had a quick pattern for fabric shopping bags that i wanted to make… but i always use our plastic bags for our bathroom trash, so then i have to buy trash bags… which is better?

Very informative and convicting clip! I watched it from beginning to end and clicked on the 10 more ways to make a difference, too. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing and making me think about what I buy and how I take care of our earth.

Dana, I use the veggie bags for our bathroom trash too. The wal-mart bags are for poopie diapers. I hate that wal-mart specifically makes it really hard for you NOT to use bags in the self check out. Every time I go through a regular check lane the checker looks at me like I have three heads when I tell her not to bag my milk, and to cram the rest of my stuff in a reusable bag.
At Sam’s today I saw some organic cotton towels that had a paper label on them that was embedded with wildflower seeds. You just wet the label and plant it…no waste, and bonus flowers…nice!
Jaime, I try to look at it like we are saving not just the earth, but people too. Every time I pick up a made-in-china something or other I honestly ask myself how many children labor workers did it take for me to get this .99 P.O.C in my hands

Well, the bags for produce. They fit perfectly in the bathroom trash, and are clear. We buy a lot of produce.
Dana, if you make some sturdy grocery bags I might be interesting in buying some. I think that would be a really cool Etsy project. There is for sure a market for them.
