Detoxify or Die

Author Dr. Sherry Rodger’s was on KBJS this morning talking about her book Detoxify or Die. Lots of the info I heard was not new to me because I used to work in the health food industry, and regularly watch Dr. Oz on Oprah, but just as I was about to turn off the car a caller on the show asked “what about heartburn?”
My ears perked up because I battle pretty serious acid reflux disease. It goes beyond heartburn. I am literally addicted to that little purple pill…yup nexium. I take it several times a week.
The good Dr. tells us that when you turn off your acid pumps in the stomach (exactly what nexium, rolaids, etc.. do) your body can not adequately break down and process nutrients. Also, she states that people on heartburn medication have a much higher increase in cancer statistics. And, to quote her “if you want to age someone on the fast track put them on heart burn medication.” Yipes!
I have been on these meds for SIX YEARS since I was pregnant with twins. I was convinced the stress of three kids in diapers and tandem nursing was what gave me wrinkles and gray hair. It was probably the HB pills alllll along.
So, if you see me out and about with a glassed over look in my eyes, and a huge gaping hole in my neck with flames bursting forth you know why, but hopefully it won’t come to that.

I’ve tried it, and it didn’t help. I did daily shots when I was PG with Jack. I have also tried papaya tablets, and juice, eliminating all fried foods, no tomato products, etc… Nothing worked.
I need to eat right for my type and loose some weight. That corrects the problem, but you know how it is. There is always a birthday party, or potluck, busy night or some something or other a few times a week when we eat badly.
I really want to detox, but every time I try I get SO sick (sure sign of being toxic.) It’s really hard to function with all the kids when you feel terrible.
I wish I could afford to go to a detox spa for a couple weeks.
So, for now it’s small changes. We exercise regularly, and I only drink water or tea, gonna clean up the diet a bit more and add lots more fiber + green foods, and eliminate *evil* sugar.

I’m glad mine went away when I gave birth. I think I’d probably accept the early aging over the heartburn given the option.

Nexium does indeed stop the acid pumps in the stomach - proton pumps I believe they are called. Rolaids just neutralizes existing acid, basically a chemical reaction. (ever read the side of a baking soda box…it’s the same deal).
I’ve been taking Prevacid for many years - as long as it’s been around I believe - and I look younger than anyone I know my age. But there are other factors in that like not drinking, not somking etc…
The point being, not ONE thing makes you look/live/feel older or younger.

I’ve literally had heartburn like twice in my whole life. My husband has it bad though, and I’m always looking for solutions.
