Geek Love

This how how I spend lots of my Saturday afternoons. Sitting in a bookstore with a group of mostly boys (and the one grown man who I am quite sure the character “Kip” from the flick Napoleon Dynomite was based on.) who play pokemon’. It’s serious business. At any given time durring the two hours they play you will find pensive faces, cards expertly placed, and enough poke-ease (that’s pokemon speak) to make your eyes cross.
My son is his father’s child. It’s Aaron made over. He cares not that two of our neighbor boys already have dirt bikes, or that they get to shoot deer. My son is more of a cerebral kid. He likes to play outside as much as the next almost-eight-year-old, but by golly he is gonna talk about his nintendo DS, pokemon TCG, or some other gaming something or other the whole time.
I think in the south, especially, there is a stigma on boys who don’t naturally want to break things, get dirty, and play with guns (that would be my younger son btw,) because if you don’t you aren’t a real man.
It makes me happy that J has found hobbies that use his mind because in my opinion if you are using your brain, finding constructive hobbies, etc…then you aren’t sitting around bored to tears just waiting for trouble to find you.
I think geeks make great husbands!
