Family camp out

We had to move mountains to make this trip happen because my “check engine” light came on the day before in the van, and Aaron’s car has been down for a month while we save for a major repair on it. We borrowed my mom’s toyota, packed light, strapped on the bike rack, and viola’, we were good to go. Aaron’s parents and my mom took shifts taking care of Lucas since my mom had to go to a family reunion. Whew! It was a finely co-ordinated dance, but with a group effort it all came together and we had a GREAT time!

PS: If anyone of you think about it please pray for our car situation, and that the van will only cost us one arm, or one leg…not both :) We are doing the Dave Ramsey plan, and do not want to have to buy a new car right now!! Please remind me that being debt free is better than a car payment…lol.

Anyway, here’s pics of our fun. Enjoy!

Campfire sharing time, right before “Coach” took us on a walk for an astronomy lesson.

Hanging out until the fire died down, making new friends, telling old stories, roasting dogs, and eating s’mores.

“Mommy, I’m sleepy” he said right before he conked out in his SW shirt, SW shoes, in his SW chair…lol!

Cleaning the dutch ovens after a yummy breakfast. Scout master and the big boys made this nifty tripod to cook the food on.

  1. Have you checked around to make sure you have the lowest price? Our buddy works at ABC (I thinkI) on the loop if you want another opinion. Being debt free is FAR better than a car payment! :) Maybe God will be gracious and only have it be a hand instead of the whole arm. :)

  2. It’s only gonna cost in the 200.00’s for the van, and that is GREAT news! This is to fix the AC problem and the oxegen filter (the cause of the check engine light comming on.)

The car is gonna be a thousand or more to fix. It’s the timing chain.

Aaron does not work on cars other than regular matinece stuff.

We had to pay in taxes this month, had to cover all Lucas’ RX/Dr. apt. out of pocket, and had some much needed house repairs done. It was an expensive month, so we were waiting to fix Aaron’s car.

The place we were going was not very honnest, so we switched to Kevin’s Auto and have been super impressed. He is a really nice Christian guy,and shows us and talks us through everything that needs to be done, what can wait, etc… His prices are also very resonable too.

  3. We’ve been pleased with Kevin’s auto, too. My dad is a car mechanic (in his spare time), but anything he can’t do (or doesn’t want to), he takes to Kevin’s and he’s always been very satisified.

I agree that debt free is better than a car payment, unless the maintenance is more or close to a car payment. Then you’re just pouring money down the drain. I think Dave Ramsey has some great advice!
