Mommy of the year award goes too….
Lucas had a really violent seizure Monday, and I had to call 911 because he was not comming out after I gave him diastat, and was turning blue. I hesitated because I knew if the EMT guys showed up we would be going to the hospital even if the seizure broke. Well, sure enough the seizure did break (thank you Lord, and for my friend Jody who called in the midst of the chaos and started a prayer chain right then) and the ER guys did want to take him in. They were very nice, and equally as concerned, so it took a lot to get them to back down and let me do what I thought was right. We would end up in the ER all day, and night for something we have handled on our own dozens of times. They would poke and prod my baby, his schedule would be shot to shoot, and we would risk exposure to nasty hospital infections for some unkown doc to say “welp, your kid is epilleptic…follow up with his regular doc.”
So, fast forward to yesterday when I called in Lucas’ RX and realized I had been giving him the wrong medicine FOR TWO FREAKING DAYS! To say I felt like dirt would be the understatement of the century. I somehow got the bottle of his seizure meds mixed up with his claritin bottle. In my defence the bottles are identical and both are clear and grape smelling, and I screwed in the syringe cap on the wrong bottle (which was how I noticed which bottle was what.) At least I know now to tripple check every single time.
Later that afternoon someone left the bathroom door open and Jonas had pooped and not flushed. Lucas was crying really bad, and I kept smelling poop, so I changed his diaper and it was dry. Hmmm, well it took me a minute to figure out why he was screaming hystericaly and then I smelled his breath. To my horror I realized my child had eaten doodoo out of the toilet…GAG!!!!! He held his mouth open willingly as I sprayed the vegtable sprayer thing in his moth over and over. Then I wiped his mouth out with scope, brushed his teeth, and bathed him.
If you have made it this far with out puking, or turning your computer off with discust bravo!
How did the day go today you ask? It went pretty well until we ran into to wal-mart to grab some fish. I stopped to look at a clearance rack of bathing suits, and looked down to check on Lucas and he was GONE! The stoller buckle was not working quite right on the left side, and he somehow wriggled out of a five point restaint when he got the buckle undone on one side. This is also the loop wal-mart that is torn up from one end to the other for remodel right now.
In a pure terrified panic I started racing throught the isles asking anyone and everyone if they had seen my little boy, my cracking voice as tears threated to gush at any second. A lady in the dressing room called a “code Adam,” in which I was sure the world would stop spinning and everyone in that place would come together and help me find my kid. It seemed like nothing was different. No one gave a crap as I, in a panic, explained that he was not your average three year old, and could be anywhere, and would not know his name was being announced to come to customer service. Shoppers just looked on at me freaking out. I felt like every eye was judging me thinking “how could you let your child get away from you like that lady?!”
I told Jack and Jonas to stay with the cashier, threw down my purse and diaper bag, and took off in a sprint to the other end of the store. It seemed like it took hours to get a few isles over, while I entertained thoughts of “oh, God, a pervert could have my baby, or some childless pscho took him while I wasn’t looking,” and then I saw him. Lucas was walking with a small statured black lady wearing a red shirt.
It was his teacher from school. It was Ms. Lee!!!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!! I burst into tears as I grabed him up, hugging her over and over to emotional for a propper hello.
Ms. Lee was just shopping, and when he was lost she saw him walking around and when she called him name he came running into her safe loving arms. Anyone could have grabbed my child, but the Lord had his hand on Lucas and I know that was not just some random incident. God is good even, and especially in utter chaos.]]>
